Chapter 9: Vanilla
The next day I go through the same routine and passively sit through all my classes. In between periods I’d give Collin a quick call to see if he came to school. I wanted to thank him again for the time spent, and give him a hug. I remember why I loved being his friend, his presence itself made me feel better and smile again, even when I was at my lowest. His touch, his smile, and even his voice was my pain killer. It was my newest addiction, and I was going crazy that he was ignoring me.
As the final bell rings, I give Collin one more call. If he didn’t answer, it was time to officially give him the silent treatment.
“Hey this is Collin, please leave a voicemail after the tone-BEEP” I hang up quickly annoyed as ever. Picking up my pace as I walk towards the front of the school someone coos at me.
“Sebastian! Sup cutie.” I look up to see David with his car waiting right by the gates. Grinning his big smile, always trying to grab attention from the high schoolers who can not drive.
“David. When I said spend the day after school, I didn’t necessarily mean right away-” He picks me up around my waste.
“Shut up Cutie. I couldn’t wait.” He places a kiss on my cheek and starts to laugh.
“Put me down now! You’re so annoying, and you’re embarrassing me,” I try to sound stern.
“C’mon cutie, can’t a guy pick up his date without any complaints.” He places me gently on the ground, and opens the door to his car. “Get in, c’mon.”
I rush in the car, my face flushed red because I’m not used to public displays of affections.
As I buckle in my seat belt, he reaches behind my chair and pulls out three things. A candle, a dvd, and flowers. Typically things like this wouldn’t phase me, but he got all my favorites. Vanilla scented, Lion King, and gardenias.
“David, these are beautiful…How did you know?” I questioned while smiling to myself.
“I really wanna show you how important you mean to me. Plus I tried my best to remember your favorites, I heard you-”
“But you were not listening,” I said to throw him off.
“Wait let me finish, but I wasn’t listening cause everytime I look at you, your smile and eyes hypnotize me.” He finished off his sentence as he grabbed my hand and kissed it. I melted inside.
I continue to hold his hand as he drives us to my home. Maybe tonight will be a good time, and why do I feel butterflies? Let’s just see how everything goes.
